From powerful spikes on the court to game-winning goals on the field, this season proved to be a great one for both the volleyball and soccer teams.
The Art and Design girls’ soccer and volleyball teams just ended their seasons. Everyone on these teams worked incredibly hard to uphold their standards.
Both of these sports teams enjoyed playing together and bonded over their shared love of the sport.
A senior on the team expressed her feelings about graduating and leaving the volleyball team.
”I think I’m gonna miss just everyone who’s on the team. Like I love the energy that we have.” Says Penelope Mascia, a senior film major.
And a Junior captain over on the soccer team states an exciting victory and what it meant for her.
“My favorite part of the whole season was winning our last game and getting a good victory to
end the season. … Because it was amazing to see how the team progressed from the beginning of the season to the end of the season.” says Scarlett Metz, a junior graphic design major.
These teams not only call each other team members; but also friends. They built strong bonds and looked up to one another.

Margot says that team bonding activities are important to the unity of the soccer team.
“…we went to a women’s soccer game and that was definitely a bonding experience.” says Marjorie ‘Margot’ Steadmana, senior soccer captain.
And the volleyball players, through their time spent together, have all learned from each other and enjoyed their time spent.
“I look up to, actually, two people. It’s my other captain here, Penelope, and also our libero Sulye Acosta. And I look up to them because they’re always able to have really good energy on the team.” says Estelle Avebe, a junior graphic major on the volleyball team.
“The community and all the friends I’ve made, they’re very welcoming,” says Hazel Orzechowski.
These teams achieved their goals of not only calling each other team members but also friends, and at building those bonds and looking up to one another.
They have also recognized what they must work on for a better season next year.
“Next year, I plan to put a strong emphasis on developing our players’ technical abilities. While the team is made up of smart and fast learners, their overall soccer intelligence still has room to grow. It takes years of experience to build the level of understanding required to perform at the top tier of the PSL Division.” says soccer Coach McCalla.
“We need to dedicate ourselves a little more than we did this year. We had a lot of players missing all kinds of practices and games due to various reasons,“ says volleyball Coach Spector.
The girls’ volleyball team worked very hard, and they made it all the way to the playoffs for the first time in six years. They are aiming to repeat this achievement next year.

“I’m trying to practice as much as possible.” says Mia Gragas Grando, a junior illustration major on the volleyball team.
Though they have had their ups and downs, they can’t wait to start getting ready for next year.
“Keep smiles on our faces whenever we’re going through a rough part of the game and just win it back because we know we can.” says Mascia.
