For years now, every school around the world including, Art and Design High School, has had its go-to spots, places where students could get together and talk, laugh, and build real friendships before going home for the day or during their lunch periods.
Places like The Hugh, Cassianos, and right outside of Chase Bank are always packed with students of Art and Design. These places have continuously been popular over the span of years; they’re no longer just any place around the school, they’ve become a huge part of our school’s culture, and it seems to repeat every year going forward.

For many students, these places aren’t just about the location, they’re about the memories tied to them and sense of belonging in a place outside of school.
Tali Sanchez, a senior photography major, says “I will feel very upset because I like going there, I’ve been going there since freshman year. Like, so many things happen there, I like it.”
Other students also have their favorite spots, even if they aren’t popular among others. Senior architecture Fredes has explored parts of Midtown to find a place she feels most comfortable and can call her favorite.
“After school, I will either go to Whole Foods or probably this boba place on 3rd Ave, I believe is called Juicy Cube” said Fredes.
What draws people into a new location isn’t the brand itself. It’s the idea of being in a place where they can meet new people or bring some of their own without judgement.
“Honestly, just wanted to try new things, wanted to get comfortable around my surroundings, and also it’s a nice, cute place to stay.” said junior illustration, Jasper Isidoro
For almost every student, these spots aren’t just locations anymore, they’re places they grew up in. Every memory made there has changed them as a person, giving them a sense of belonging.
“I brought my first date there and we talked for a good minute.” said Sanchez
